This is time of the year were we give and receive and get reminded of how blessed we are to have all the things we do. It is the time were we get together and celebrate the year we had, and set goals and make few resolutions for the new year.

This is has been a great year for our club, we had 3 new members and 2 successful fundraisers. Our finances are getting healthier, we are doing projects with other clubs.  We participated in every district event,  the energy and attendance  are at all time high.

We are set for these events:  1.City Center Christmas party on December 13th at 6:00pm.
                                              2. Combined Rotary Clubs Christmas party at The Wedgwood, December 16th at 6:30pm.

Last but not least we are having our board meeting this Wednesday December 7th 5:30pm at my office, please join us if you have any ideas or concerns to make our club even better for the new year.

On a light note, Bob Pazen gave our joke of the day.

Bruce McGee announced the slate for new board members for 2017 which will be Mike Martin, Kris Hansen & Amber Stevens. A motion was made and seconded to accept the slate as presented and was unanimously accepted.

John Borneman led us in our song of the day.

Joe Strohman thanked Amber Stevens and Sara Masterson for helping with the shopping for our military families.

Joe Strohman also thanked John Borneman for helping Andy Corliss and his wife.

Joe Strohman said that our Foundation Board will need to elect 2 new board members and if you are interested in being on our Foundation Board, please let Joe know.

In Memory of Andy Corliss
From Joe Strohman...

John Borneman just advised me that Andy Corliss passed away this morning, Dec. 9, 2016 at 4:30 a.m.

I understand a service or remembrance  is being planned next month by the family.

As you know, Andy Corliss was a Charter Member of our club. His sponsors where John Masterson and Pete Gallagher. Andy served as President of our club in 1965-66

When I interviewed Andy at the club a number of years ago I remember him recounting how he volunteered for the Canadian Air Force because he wanted to join the fight in Europe as soon as possible.

Andy flew a British Spitfire on D-Day plus 1 over the Beaches of Normandy.  During that time a German Messerschmitt managed to get behind him and fire. The only thing that saved Andy was that Spitfires had a solid metal plate behind the pilot seat. The bullet hit that metal plate and that saved him.

Andy leapfrogged across Europe, one air base to the next, from the French countryside to Belgian as the war progressed.

He had a great career in broadcasting after the war. His most recent story was telling how he was asked to train a young broadcaster from Bakersfield named Frank Gifford

It’s sad to lose another WWII Vet and club member like Andy.

I’m sure we can remember Andy at our meeting next week.
News about the Rotary Cruise
Wow!
We already have a fun group of 12 couples signed up for our first ever Ventura Rotary Cruise March 9th.  Best news?  There are plenty  of reserved staterooms for more!  This 4 day "Bash and Splash" party will kick off from SAN PEDRO on Thursday, March 9th with stops in CATALINA and ENSENADA.

Many Rotarians are taking family and friends with them.  What a great way to show off Rotary's congeniality.  "Good deeds AND good times".

Besides the plentiful activities and entertainment provided by our luxurious Princess Star, Capt'n Cruise (AKA John Masterson) has added group only excitements like a Rotary scavenger hunt, keroake contest and cocktail parties.

We have veranda staterooms (category BC) still available for a total price of $895 pp.  This includes all activities, PLUS Port fees, taxes, document charges, crew gratuities and transportation to and from SAN Pedro.

Don't miss the fun. Sign up today.  December 18th is our final deadline!

Ask your friends or other Rotarians to join us!

Though Atlanta has seen its share of violence and inequity over time, today it brims with reminders that there is another way. Get inspired while you’re visiting for the 2017 Rotary International Convention from 10 to 14 June. Take a short walk from the convention center to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. There, you can see the handwritten notes, speeches, and sermons of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., experience an interactive 1960s-era lunch counter “sit-in,” and learn more about persecuted groups all over the world. A streetcar will take you to the Martin Luther King Jr...
