The following students are recipients of the Rotary Club of Ventura-East Scholarships for 2020. This year we gave $100,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity of past and current club members.

Robert “Bob” Beckwith joined the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1972 and was the longtime owner of California Office Equipment in Ventura. A World War II veteran, Bob bequeathed $1.9 Million to the Foundation to provide scholarships to students. Bob’s extraordinary gift will allow students to receive scholarships for generations to come.
Eric Nicolet joined Rotary in 1958 and was President of two Rotary Clubs including the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1979-80. Eric was a B-24 Liberator pilot in the Italian and North Africa Theaters during World War II. A lifelong educator, Eric was responsible for interviewing and hiring hundreds of faculty members at Ventura College over the years. He was also one of the founding members of the Ventura College Foundation.
Devere (“Pete”) and Arlene (“Tootie”) Gallagher. Pete was a Founding Member of the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1963. Pete and Tootie operated an automobile gas and service station in Ventura for decades and were anchors of the club. Through their generosity the club and the Foundation received funds dedicated to college scholarships.
Neal Cummins joined Rotary in 1957. Neil was a licensed civil engineer and served many years as an Executive Consultant for religious organizations including the Presbyterian Church. Neal recognized many charitable organizations upon his death including the Rotary Club of Ventura East.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was incorporated in 1992 and is a 501(c)(3) California Corporation (Tax ID No. is 77-0306970). Since 1963 the club and the Foundation have awarded over $446,000 in scholarships to over 195 high school and college students.
